Jürgen Klopp has announced his departure as Liverpool manager at the end of this season, stunning the soccer world.
Klopp, who took charge in October 2015, led Liverpool to Champions League glory and a Premier League championship during his tenure. Making the announcement on Friday, he cited “running out of energy” as the reason for stepping down.
Expressing deep affection for the club, city, supporters, team, and staff, Klopp emphasized that the decision, though unexpected, reflects his conviction. Despite recently rebuilding the team and Liverpool leading the league, Klopp feels it’s the right time to make this decision.
Liverpool, currently competing in multiple competitions, including the English League Cup final, affirmed Klopp’s iconic status. Klopp urged the team to focus on their targets and not let his announcement distract from their goals, emphasizing Liverpool’s strength and determination.
As Klopp exits, assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, along with elite development coach Vitor Matos, will also leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
